Double Load is a Photo Essay Project begun in 1976 in South Minneapolis, Minnesota. I spent nearly every evening at one particular laundromat getting to know the people who frequented it and gaining their trust so I could candidly take photos. The idea of photographing a laundromat appealed to me since I was new to the area, and saw it as the cross-roads of cultures, races and classes. It also offered a lot of aesthetic scenes and a window into how people interact within it.
